Photography

We use black and white photography throughout our communications. This helps to elevate the brand. It is also more distinctive and sits well alongside our accent of green.

Our shots capture real-life moments and are not engineered ‘lifestyle’ shots. The subject matter should reflect a relationship between people or the individual person and their environment.

The photography we use incorporates a subtle and intelligent use of diversity. The brand is inclusive and should use diversity sensibly.

Hero photography is black and white, but colour photography can be used occasionally for supporting imagery in brochures or on the website.

Contact sheets are available from the brand team or please refer to the brand team for more details on photography usage.

Please note: the montage mock up on this page is to display a number of examples. Images should be used in single instances and not as a montage as displayed here.

Photography - Image treatment

Black and white image treatment

In instances when photography is required it will most often be stock photography. In order to treat the imagery to match our photography style please use the 4 step process.

  • Step 1
    The original image
  • Step 2
Make your image black and white:
    Image > Adjustments > Black & White
  • Step 3
Use the levels tool to adjust the image
  • Step 4
Crop the image to focus in on what you're trying to communicate

Photography – Desaturated image treatment

Desaturated image treatment

We have introduced desaturated colour photography to compliment our black and white photography style.

Colour photography should only appear in 25% of the images used throughout an item.

It is fundamental that black and white photography is used in covers and hero banners.

Colour photography should only be used as smaller complimentary images rather than full bleed images.

For example, colour photography can be used to highlight key articles or pieces of information.

In instances where desaturated colour photography is to be used, please use the 4 step process.

  • Step 1
    The original image
  • Step 2
    Make your image saturated:
Image > Adjustments > Hue and saturation
  • Step 3
Use the levels tool to adjust the image.
  • Step 4
Crop the image to focus in on what you're trying to communicate.
